Poster Abstract Parameters

Deadline: Friday, March 1, 2024, at 5 p.m. Thank you to everyone who submitted a poster, authors will be notified of their status in early March.

The UConn College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR) is pleased to announce the call for innovative poster abstracts for submission to the 2024 One Health Conference (held on Monday, April 1, 2024, in the Student Union on the Storrs Campus). Please share this call with graduate and undergraduate students. This opportunity is designed to provide additional discussion of research, teaching, Extension and outreach in One Health at CAHNR. 

Poster Information 

Posters provide a unique and formal means to share work and interests. There are three categories for posters: 

01: One Health: A Framework for Equity from Global to Local 

Keywords: justice, diversity, low-income countries, marginalized groups, equitable health systems, mental health, health disparities, health equity, chronic disease 

02: One Health: The Human-Animal-Environment Interface 

Keywords: emerging infections, antimicrobial resistance, tropical disease, zoonotic diseases, pandemic prevention, built environment, materials, chronic disease, mental health 

03: One Health: A Changing Ecosystem  

Keywords: climate change, biodiversity, plants, agriculture, agroecology, microbiome, food security, occupational aspects 

Submission Eligibility 

For consideration, abstracts submitted need to follow these eligibility criteria. 

  • Abstracts must present a project (research, teaching or community engagement and Extension) in the One Health area and related topics. 
  • Abstracts that have not been previously presented at a national conference will be considered. 
  • Abstracts must be authored or co-authored by at least one CAHNR student (graduate or undergraduate). 
  • The lead author must be a student; however, CAHNR faculty and staff can be co-authors. 
  • Abstracts must be formatted and submitted as PDF documents (see details below). 
  • At least one author, including the lead author, must attend the One Health Conference on April 1, 2024, and be present for the entire conference. 

Submission Formatting 

  • The PDF file names should follow the naming convention: 
  • Lead author last name, poster (e.g., SmithPoster.PDF) 
  • If a lead author has more than one submission, add numerals to each file name (e.g., CarverPoster1.PDF) 

 Abstract Headings 

The poster abstract should use these heading/sections, as appropriate: 

  1. Title 
  2. Introduction/need for this topic 
  3. How it works/methods/program phases/steps 
  4. Results to date/implications 
  5. Future plans/advice to others 
  6. Costs/resources needed 
  7. Conclusions 
  8. Implications/recommendations/impact on profession 
  9. References 

Poster Abstract 

  • Abstracts should be a maximum of 350 words with up to one additional page of references. 
  • The abstract narrative must include the title of the poster as the first line. 
  • The abstract document should be formatted in 12-point font, Times New Roman, single-spaced, with 1” margins. Add a space between paragraphs; do not indent the first line of paragraphs. 
  • Maximum submission length is 350 words. 
  • Submissions not conforming to the required formatting guidelines may be rejected prior to review. 

Evaluation & Notification of Accepted Posters 

Abstracts will be evaluated by a peer review panel. The evaluation form will follow the outlined headings and format described above. Authors will be notified of acceptance via email in early March and receive reviewer feedback at that time. The number of posters selected for the presentation will be determined according to presentation space available and the number of poster abstracts submitted. Abstracts of accepted posters will be shared on the One Health website after the conference. 

Poster abstracts must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024. 

Outstanding Poster Presentation Competition 

Poster presentations will be evaluated during the conference poster session and outstanding presentations honored at the end of the conference.  

Poster Logistics Information

We will have easels at the conference, submitters are responsible for printing and mounting their own posters. Dimensions of the poster are flexible and determined by the submitting team.
