UConn's Initiative

UConn uses One Health, a sustainable approach to health that recognizes the deep connections between human, animal, plant, and environmental well-being. At the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources, we apply the holistic concepts of One Health and believe that an integrative and inclusive approach is where solutions to complex problems may lie. Through educational and experiential learning programs, research, extension, and outreach, UConn aims to train the next generation of educators and environmentally conscious residents to address health issues using One Health principles. This is achieved through the expertise of program leaders across all disciplines, including food production, food safety, and water resource management. The well-being of the planet as a whole depends on the dynamic interactions between humans, animals, plants, and the environment. One Health provides the collaborative framework needed to address worldwide health challenges, working toward a healthier and more resilient future for all.

The Global Initiative

One Health is a concept that is gaining worldwide attention and momentum. It is an interdisciplinary strategy designed to expand and strengthen collaboration between professionals in the human, animal, and environmental health fields. When implemented properly, One Health nurtures and improves the health and well-being of all species. This integrative approach allows for the discovery of solutions to complex problems such as climate change, zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and environmental degradation, working toward improved health outcomes for people, animals, and the planet.
